A portable router (or "travel" router) can be handy to isolate your device from the local WiFi, but it can be useful if you need more connection points than is provided. AirTags and other GPS trackers are essential travel accessories.
AirTag are probably the best for iPhones though there are cheaper alternatives.
For Android the best ones to use depend on the particular phone manufacturer. For Samsung phones the Samsung SmartTag2 ts best; for Pixel phones the Moto Tile is best. Others manufacturers are Tile and Chipolo. The SmartTag is used with Samsung's SmartThings app; others use Google's Find My Device app.
Elevation Labs sells a weatherproof holder for an AirTag that provides a longer battery life by using two AA batteries as the power source replacing the single button cell. They also sell a large variety of mounting hardware.
